sooo, lalala. i realize it's been awhile, I was really just pretty much hopeless after getting the run-around from so many people.
However...drum roll...
my work is switching dental insurance, and going with cigna now! so cigna will be my insurance for dental and medical, instead of just medical. there are many more orthodontists under cigna's policy than aetna's where I live, so hopefully this will make things a little easier! I really don't like the ortho I was going to.
hopefully i'll get the ball rolling again soon! :)

Awesome, Melissa! Isn't it wonderful how life takes these expected turns? :)
By the way, I thought I was the only one that starts sentences with "lalala". LOL.
Excellent. Good luck with that and I hope you can get started soon.

Hi Melissa -- just found your blog through Kristen's. I totally relate to the frustration you've felt with providers, insurance, etc. Everything is working out for me now, but I definitely would do it differently if I went through it again. I would have found a surgeon first and have that surgeon recommend an orthodontist that they work closely with. I picked the ortho first, then she recommended a surgeon that wasn't in my insurance network, so I got a list (I'm on Cigna too, and the list of providers was pretty short even for my area!) and she wasn't very helpful with helping me pick one. I forget exactly what I queried on the Cigna site but you can find specialists in maxillofacial surgery under plastic surgery. That's where I found mine -- he wasn't listed under "oral surgeons." Weird huh?
Anyway, long story short (as short as I can make it), the original orthodontist I went through didn't work out, she didn't communicate well with my surgeon, I got conflicting information and grew very frustrated and she finally decided she didn't want to deal with my case anymore and I had the surgeon refer me to an orthodontist he works with a lot. And it is SO MUCH better now!
Also, I only have Cigna for my health insurance, but they pick up the surgery. I have Delta Dental and they have a $2000.00 cap on what they'll cover for orthodontics in or out of network, so I was free to go with any orthodontist I wanted. (However, knowing what I do now, I would totally find a surgeon first.)
Hi this is amy, another ortho blogger out there. I'm new to the blogging thing and saw yours out there. I hear you about insurance/doctor's troubles. To make a long story short I had to pay for braces TWICE because of it. But my orthodontist now was SO worth paying for them all over again. I've been in braces for 3 1/2 years now (4 in November) and it was only supposed to be a 2 year thing. Guess not! But finally my surgery date is July 20th...all has figured itself out. I will be reading to see how you are doing and add your link on my site which is: http://dialofortho.blogspot.com/.
thanks and don't give up!
